Self Defence Instructor - Luby

From very young age, Ljubisa Pavic (Luby) was finding himself in the situations where he'd be leading a resistance to bullying and injustice, protecting weak against the violence, and this is one of things that drives him even today.

Luby started training martial arts in Budokai in Zagreb, Croatia at the age of 14 at the Budokai Centre under the founder of Budokai, Dr. Emin Topic. Budokai unites wrestling, boxing and traditional weapons handling into a modern discipline. During his years at Budokai Centre, Luby competed in a few competitions (Budokai & Full Contact kick boxing) and was showing a promising career, however a civil war in former Yugoslavia placed his martial arts training on hold until he moved to New Zealand.

Over the years he tried a few disciplines but ended up not pursing them due to deficiencies in traditional martial arts when used in self defence against real world violence, but then he discovered KRAV MAGA.

After years of training intensively in Krav Maga both in New Zealand and in Israel, he was certified as a Master Instructor in Krav Maga in 2019 in Jerusalem, Israel by Dr. ITAY GIL, founder and CEO of Protect Israeli Security Solutions. Luby runs KRAV FIGHTER with the aim of improving the self defence skills of everyday people, thus making New Zealand a safer place.

Self Defence Instructor - Joel

Joel Tham has been doing martial arts since his childhood. In his college years Joel headed the Avondale College Tae Kwon Do team and medalled at the NZ Nationals. One of his martial art highlights was flying to Australia for the trans-Tasman fight and winning gold in his division.

In the need for a more effective system of self-defence Joel took up Krav Maga in 2009 and has not looked back ever since. After years of rigorous training and tutelage he received his instructor certification comes from Lior Offenbach (Combat Krav Maga International).

Shane holds the honour of being the first student to join Combat Krav Maga when it was founded. Since then he has worked tirelessly to improve himself while broadening his skills in KRAV MAGA, as well as other self defence disciplines, learning from the best including:

During his years of training he displayed an ability to breakdown techniques and situations so that they were easy to learn. Shane realised that passing on this knowledge would benefit the other club members, so he applied himself to teaching as well. Thus Shane also became the first assistant instructor of the club and continued to be until he became a fully certified instructor after receiving his certification from Lior Offenbach (Combat Krav Maga International).

Shane stays on as an instructor for KRAV FIGHTER, so that he could continue to instruct and pass his knowledge and skills to club members now and in the future.
